A great conversation. Fantastic, awe-inspiring ideas. Invigorating exchange. You’re hit by the fact that you now understand what the word “synergy” means. But if you don’t follow up on that conversation, keep that connection going, continue to learn from the exchange and build a mutually beneficial relationship, you might as well have spent the evening on your couch watching Idol.
Friendships do not build themselves, nor do professional relationships. If you experience professional kismet and find someone from whom you can learn and connect with, follow it up with an email, a call, a letter of appreciation. Keep the encounter going, keep the ideas going and follow-up on anything left out there. Building connections is important but the interesting stuff happens after that.
