by | Dec 30, 2014 | Industry News & Trends

Goodbye 2014. Put it in the books. It has been a remarkable year with a number of highs and a few lows along the way. But isn’t that typical of almost every journey we go on?

While I think we’re all ready for the “fresh start” the New Year affords us, it is also to pause for a moment and look back at the year that brought us here. So as a final toast to 2014, we look back at some of the ideas and strategies we shared with you the past 12 months.

Forget the Polar Vortex, Ignite Your 2014 with These Tips and Resources.

It’s Got to be About Us Helping People

We are human beings, not machines. Sometimes I think we forget that as we run from place to place, trying to keep up with never ending demands on our time, trying to keep up with the direction our technological driven lives lead us daily. I see it all the time. People with their heads down […]

Your Association is in Transition, Whether You Know It or Not

The past couple months we’ve been talking a lot about strategies, and in particular, the need for associations to develop strategies around important areas of interest like online communities and job boards. Part of that need is being driven by fast moving competition that, while not specifically targeting associations, are on a course to run […]

New Member Engagement – Looking For Value Beyond the Welcome Kit

I came across an article recently that was making the case for the undeniable value of the age old new member packet for today’s association. It mentioned how new members are most always engaged members, and that the trusty packet can help those members stay engaged beyond the first exciting months of membership. Interesting thought, […]

Use Design to Define Your Association’s Brand and Grow Membership

Your design choices create the first impression, and lasting perception, of your association in the minds of members, prospective members and your industry. Your branding – your logo, artwork, photography, colors, layouts, fonts, etc. – creates the first overall image someone experiences when looking at your web presence, marketing and member communication pieces and should […]

The Dos and Don’ts of Advertising on Your Association Website

Your association likely has a website. It’s the source where members get information, interact with each other, learn about member benefits, and it’s also a place where you’ve worked hard to create value-added member benefits, possibly with an offering like an organization-specific, niche job posting board. As the association, you represent the collective voice of […]

Reinvent the tired, predictable conference experience by using readily available technology to wow your attendees, simplify communication, and create a spectacular, lasting impression that takes your organization above and beyond their expectations. You know the sayings, ‘First Impressions Mean Everything’ and ‘It only takes 7 Seconds to Make […]

Believe it or Not, “Members Only” Doesn’t Always Benefit Your Members

It’s not easy to identify ways to make the value of membership offerings resonate with young professionals, but every association and membership organization will need to recruit them and it can be done. We recently held our June webinar entitled Flipping the Membership Equation: Thinking Differently About Membership Recruitment and Retention. In the webinar we discussed the need for […]

Great News – America’s Hiring and Associations have a Reason to Celebrate

America’s hiring again and associations and their members have reason to celebrate. Last Friday the US Bureau of Labor Statistics announced a very strong jobs report that caught many economists by surprise. With more than 270,000 jobs added in September the unemployment rate fell below 6% for the first time since before the recession. That […]
